We can only assume that this pupper is wearing that cheeky little grin because it thinks that it has hit the mother load with its donut shaped neck pillow, and that the second his pawrent turns their back he is going to tuck into his delicious sweet treat. Oh, what a disappointment is headed his way.

A clever pawrent move here, they understood that left to their own devices their doggo will deem the donut around their neck as a snack and so it would be better off to provide an additional donut toy to confirm that while it does look like a donut, it is in fact not a donut.
